Advent Wreath Pop-Up Activity

Materials:

construction paper
popsicle sticks
gluesticks
scissors
markers, colored pencils, or crayons
printer + paper

Advent Wreath Instructions:

Step 1:

Print out the PDF below containing the notecards. We will use these later on in the activity.

Step 2:

Start by butting a piece of green construction paper into thirds.

Step 3:

Round the edges and use a green marker to create an effect of tinsel. If it helps, you can also add the lines to see the placement of the candles.

Step 4:

Cut pink, white, and purple/blue sheets of construction paper each into thirds. Cut those thirds vertically to make strips of paper at least one inch thick.

Step 5:

Glue the left and right sides of the rectangular candles and stick them onto the wreath according to what you see below. Stick popsicle sticks into the slots and press down on the left and right sides of the candles to ensure that they are secure. The popsicle sticks should be able to move freely in and out after the glue dries.

Step 6:

Flip the project over and stab the ends of popsicle sticks thru the backside of the green piece. Make sure that the holes you make are directly behind the candle sticks.

Step 7:

Cut out 5 pieces of yellow contruction paper in the shape of teardrops.

Step 8:

Push the popsicle sticks up and glue the teardrops onto them to create flames for your candles. Paste a notecard onto your craft for reference.

Step 9:

Test out your candles to make sure you can pop the flames up and down. If needed adjust the holes in the back or reattach the candlesticks.

Step 10:

Label your five candles and practice lighting them for each week. I did a test with my class where I would say one of the weeks (like "week 3") and they would have to light the correct candles to pass the round.
